Before You Start

Measure the oats and about two cups of water, rinse the berries, and set the cinnamon and sesame seeds within reach.

How To Make It
  1. Add the rolled oats and water to a pot and bring to a gentle simmer over medium high heat, about 2 to 3 minutes, until the surface bubbles at the edges.
  2. Turn the heat to medium low and cook, stirring now and then, 5 to 7 minutes, until the oats are soft and the pot looks creamy rather than watery.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon off the heat so it blooms without turning bitter.
  4. Spoon into a bowl, top with the mixed berries and sesame seeds, and serve.
Fix It: If it turns stiff and gluey, loosen it with a splash of hot water and stir, since oats keep drinking up liquid as they sit.
Microwave
  1. Add the ingredients you would cook together to a microwave safe bowl along with their liquid.
  2. Cover loosely and microwave in one minute bursts, stirring between each, until hot through.
  3. Let it stand for a minute, then finish and plate the dish as written in the steps above.
